A Friendly San Francisco Grill
San Francisco is a dynamic city and Momos Restaurant is a prime example of its latest renaissance. On The Embarcadero, across from Pac Bell Park where Home Run King Barry Bonds hit a record 73 this summer, is a great restaurant and a lively place to gather for libations!
Peter and Janet Osborne, the owners, had a vision of South Beach as a destination even before Pac Bell was approved. The restaurant with its indoor and outdoor dining opened in September 1998 and has been a magnet for food and fun lovers ever since. The recent addition of restaurant veteran Bob Mulhern as General Manager has added to this vision.
As we entered Momos we noticed that Bob graciously greeted all who came in as if they were his personal guests. What a Pro! We were whisked to a table at the center of the large dining room. which boasted colorful posters and designer lighting. The exhibition kitchen with wood- fired oven along the back wall and large windows over looking Pac Bell in the front, created an open yet cozy atmosphere.Allison our perky and professional waitress came right over and took our drink order and we were ready to enjoy a fun Saturday night in The City by the Bay. Here are some of the dishes that we ate and highly recommend.
Bourbon BBQ Baby Back Ribs- Trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Matt Rileys rendition of this classic is one of the prime reasons to go to Momos. The ribs were fantastic, fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. We couldnt eat them any faster and the hot towels were definitely appreciated as having BBQ sauce on your face for the entire meal would be embarrassing.
Ahi Tuna Tartare with Caviar and Fried Wonton Chips- We love Ahi Tartare and this was exceptional. The texture and seasoning were absolutely perfect! This would make a wonderful lighter meal accompanied by soup or salad.
Crispy Onion Strings-This is a treat and definitely a favorite for those with hearty appetites.
Wood Oven Roasted Halibut Cheeks with Lemon Herb Butter-Served in a small skillet, a nice presentation this buttery dish had a great taste. In fact, the flavor of the halibut was incredible! Another great choice for a lighter meal.
Marinated Beet Salad with Green Beans, Pumpkin Seeds and Goat Cheese- One of the best salads weve had in years. Roasted and marinated, just outrageous. We chose to have the goat cheese on the side which suited everyones palate.
Balsamic Braised Beef Short Ribs with Garlic Mashed Potatoes-This hearty dish is prepared to perfection
.the meat was so tender and flavorful. Great comfort food and our favorite entrée!
Day Boat Sea Scallops with Artichoke Risotto and Caviar Butter- The juicy scallops were accompanied by a tasty sauce. The flavor and texture of the risotto was a beautiful compliment to the scallops.
Sautéed Gulf Prawns with crispy Polenta and Orange Butter Sauce- We loved the polenta and the sweet sauce that went with the tender prawns. The prawns were also sautéed just right!
Warm Apple Crisp with French Vanilla Ice Cream. - This is another example Momos Comfort food.
Bananas Foster-You must save room for this fantastic expression of an earthly delight!
Homemade Pumpkin Pecan Pie with Carmel Sauce and Whipped Cream- Dont expect to share this dessert with anyone else. You will want to keep it all to yourself! This is a Peter Osborne creation and it is terrific!!
Momos has a good selection that will satisfy all palates.
1999 Highfield Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc- This wine has a buttery taste. It appears that New Zealand has surpassed California on Sauvignon Blanc!! It was excellent with the Gulf Prawns
1997 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon- It was big and bold and paired perfectly with the Short Ribs.
Just for fun we ordered a flight of Ports to close out our meal and allow us to linger a little longer.

Grahams 20 Year Tawny
Each had its own redeeming qualities but the 20 Year Grahams Tawny was the best.
