Felix & Louies
Brunch and All That Jazz
The Dining Detectives were once again in search of some fine dining and this sunny Sunday we headed north to Healdsburg. We love the Plaza with all the shops, trendy restaurants and friendly people.
Felix and Louies Restaurant is on the Plaza and has Jazz on Sunday, as well as Wednesday, so we felt it would be a fun spot to try. The Mel Graves Trio was the entertainment this week, playing Post- Be-Bop and rarely played jazz standards. As we entered the restaurant, we saw many happy diners as well as some other smiling people enjoying cocktails listening to this excellent trio. We decided to sit outside in the shaded garden patio, where we could enjoy the fabulous weather and still hear the jazz wafting toward us from the inside of the restaurant.
Pete, our waiter came right over and suggested that we start with some Brunch Beverages. We opted for
Bloody Mary- made with Skyy Vodka and 2 olives- JJ, The Bartender spiced it up just like we like it and we were started off right.
Ramos Fizz- Frosty like a milkshake and a must for one member of your group. Bet you cant drink just one.
We ordered from the brunch menu and here are some of the dishes that we enjoyed and highly recommend.
Sunday Brunch:
Basket of warm muffins- The lemon was our favorite.
Baby Spinach Salad with creamy gorgonzola dressing, garlic chips and pear- We loved this salad as a starter- excellent garlic chips
.
Eggs Benedict Mae West with Canadian Bacon- Classic Presentation and superior taste. Poached "perfectly", classic sauce and special potatoes.
Lox Bagel and Cream Cheese with all the trimmings- Fresh as can be and actually was great to quarter and split among us.
Boneless Trout with almonds, dried currents, brown butter and lemon. We really enjoyed this savory dish. The trout was prepared perfectly and we particularly liked the baby asparagus. Just Terrific.
Fettuccine Bolognese- classic blend of beef, pork and veal served over delicious fettuccine, this dish inspired us to try it at home with excellent results as well.
Pizzetta- Caramelized onion, Gorgonzola, oil cured olives and fresh thyme. A thin crispy crust made this also a great dish to share. It was wonderful!
Wines-
2000 Hanna Sauvignon Blanc- Great light white wine with pear flavors. Paired well with the Pizzetta.
2000 Mill Creek Gewürztraminer- Excellent, spicy, floral scent and citrus tastes. Paired well with most everything.
Desserts:
Peach Crisp with crème fresh- slightly warmed and definitely worth saving room for.
Apple Pie Ala- Mode with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream- Just like Mama used to make but better.
We had a very enjoyable Brunch at Felix and Louies Restaurant. The food and drinks was tasty, Pete our waiter was great, the patio was shaded and cozy and we loved all that Jazz. Upcoming Jazz groups include Dick Conte Trio, One World Latin Band, The Heavies, Bennet Friedman Trio and Calvin Keyes Quartet. Well be back again soon.
